Our Philosophy

At Essence M Parfums, we bring over a decade of experience in hospital pathology to our passion for creating healthy, beautiful fragrances. Our journey began with a walk in the woods among the mushrooms (The essence M) and a love of natural ingredients, followed by the desire to counteract the harsh odors we witnessed in our work environment.  As a fragrance afficianados with chemical sensitivities, we understand many individuals face chemical sensitivities and allergies, and are committed to providing the information necessary to make informed choices. We encourage aspiring perfumers to embrace this transparency as well, fostering a community that values knowledge and integrity in scent creation.

The Truth about the Fragrance Industry​

The perfume world is ruled by five big companies that produce every scent you see in a department or chain store. Most of these fragrances solely consist of aromachemicals that can be cheaply mass-produced. Stores have strict cost regulations which limit the amount of natural materials used in a scent. While "natural" isn't equivocal to "safe," natural ingredients add a special nuance to fragrance that can't be obtained chemically. Stores also expect extended shelf lives, which necessitates the addition of chemicals like UV protectants and preservatives (these are listed on the label).  Subject to minimal regulation in the United States, most other ingredients are listed simply as "fragrance" to protect trade secrets. ​But trade secrets are outdated. The advent of GC/MS technology has made discovering the contents of a bottle more accessible than ever, so perfume companies stay ahead of the game by manufacturing their own proprietary aromachemicals.

Our Fragrances

Our fragrances are alcohol based and contain mixtures of aromachemicals and natural ingredients, such as CO2s, essential oils, absolutes, and wildcrafted tinctures we make ourselves.

We meticulously select our ingredients, ensuring that we avoid potentially harmful substances like UV protectants, preservatives, and musks, and eliminate anything that causes issues for us and our testers. Our commitment is to provide you with exquisite scents that are not only delightful but safe for your well-being.  While we cannot eliminate everything that might be an allergen, we can inform you what to expect.  ​

We are a small indie house who knows that if a big company wants our scent, they will take it, whether we like it or not. We feel that being transparent won't affect the bottom line for us or any other house, and encourage others to be similarly transparent with the consumer in mind.
